The original Jubilee sundial was installed jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Bexhill and Senlac in 2002 as part of the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee. It was situated between the western end of the Metropole Lawn and the nearby kiosk (see lower photograph). Following changes to the promenade along West Parade during 2010 – 2011, the sundial was repositioned on the promenade in front of the Colonnade. Set into the floor the circular analemmatic-type sundial has squares of marble numbered 3 to 21 for the hours of the day and a central rectangular marble piece with each of the months of the year. By standing on the square of the relevant month of the year, on a sunny day, the shadow of the person falls across the clock showing the time of day. The commemorative plaque reads: This sundial was presented jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Bexhill & Senlac in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 2012.
