Although Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, England, has a rich and diverse history, at first glance there would appear to be only a few memorials, monuments and sculptures to help reflect that history. However, a closer look around our town will reveal a significant collection of such objects which members of the public can easily overlook.

In collaboration with the Local History Study Group at Bexhill Museum I have gathered together information on as many memorials, monuments and sculptures as we can identify and created a self-guided trail for interested people to explore this important aspect of our town’s heritage.

I have deliberately avoided including memorials, monuments and sculptures which can only be seen inside buildings so all 53 major objects on this trail can be viewed at any time. As the accompanying map shows, the objects in this trail stretch in a roughly logical progression from the eastern to the western boundaries of the town, via the Old Town, a walking distance of approximately 5½ miles.
